Weightlifting history was made at this event when Russian Vasily Alexeev became the first man to clean and jerk 500lbs! In conjunction with the World Championships the Amateur and Professional Mr World Bodybuilding contest was held. The amateur winner was Ken Waller (USA) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (Austria) would win the professional title defeating Sergio Oliva for the first time.
