In 1961 in front of a packed crowd in Sacramento California Bill Pearl won his second NABBA Mr Universe title (previously winning in 1953), this time as a professional. Earl Maynard from Barbados was also in the competition. Maynard was in great shape but couldn’t match one of the greatest bodybuilders of the time in Bill Pearl. Maynard would go on to win this title in 1964 before competing in the inaugural Mr Olympia contest in 1965. Ray Routledge won the Amateur Mr Universe contest.
