A Grand Slam for Carla Caesars World Cup

The 1984 Caesar’s World Cup for Women was the backdrop for the film “Pumping Iron II”. The contest was also the platform for the controversial debut of Australian Powerlifting World Record Holder Bev Francis. Bev lowered her weight from 190lbs to a rock hard 130lbs for the contest. Carla Dunlap, the reigning Ms Olympia champion would win the contest ahead of Tina Plakinger and Rachel McLish. Bev would ultimately finish 8th despite having ample supporters in the audience. Even some of the judges allocated their first place votes to her ignoring the judging guidelines stipulated by Ben Weider on the eve of the event. Other notables in the contest were Shelley Gruwell (7th), Carolyn Cheshire (10th) and Gladys Portugues (12th).

A must read for all.
